A walk on the wild side
9:38am Tuesday 9th September 2008 in Walks
Widecombe Church
MARIE Curie Cancer Care has launched its second Dartmoor Challenge due to take place on October 12.
The circular route will begin in the village of Widecombe-in-the-Moor situated right in the heart of Dartmoor. Walkers will learn the local legend of Jay’s grave where you’ll hear the sad tale of Kitty Jay and the mystery mourner who ensures fresh flowers are always placed at her graveside.
So come and discover the delights of Dartmoor from the Picturesque villages and traditional cream teas to the open rugged landscape and local myths and legends. Take in the breath taking views, and explore places off the beaten track. This challenge will take you on a journey of discovery over ten miles of open moorland.
Regional Events Officer, Natalie Weaving states: “The challenge gives you the opportunity to explore areas of Dartmoor that are a bit more off the beaten track and feel that sense of achievement when you complete the challenge, not just for yourself but from supporting Marie Curie Cancer Care”.
The entry fee is £10 per person and all participants are asked to raise a minimum of £100 which will help provide Marie Curie nursing care for terminally ill care patients to be cared for in the comfort of their own homes.
