WELSH seniors' international John Whitcutt was the highest-placed local player in the inaugural West of England Seniors' Scratch Open over his home course at Burnham & Berrow.
Whitcutt had rounds of 80 and 79 to finish fourth in the two-day event, jointly hosted by Burnham & Berrow and the Somerset Golf Union, which had a field of 27.
The winner, with a useful, five-over par total of 147 (75-72), was English seniors' international Doug Arnold (Copthorne). He won by two from Fleetwood's Glyn Rees (79-70), with Ian Mason (Royal Cinque Ports) third on 157.

n John Reed won the Tomkinson Cup stableford at Burnham & Berrow on May 10 with the excellent total of 42 points. Geoff Clifford, Adrian Deakins and Phillip Coggins were all three behind.
Countback decided first place in the Seniors' Stableford at Burnham on May 12, with Tony Watts edging out Tony Pearman after both had returned 39 points.
