Controversy during Bridgwater Town's 4-0 weekend defeat

Bridgwater Town 0, Swindon Supermarine 4
CONTROVERSY marred Bridgwater Town’s home clash with Swindon Supermarine on Saturday – a game which saw The Robins fall to defeat.
After 16 minutes, keeper Luke Purnell went up for a high ball with Supermarine forward Ashley Edenborough and a Town defender but, after contact, Purnell fell to the ground.
The referee kept play going despite Purnell lying motionless on the ground and the visitors had shots twice cleared off the line before finally scoring through Josh Parsons – a goal which left Bridgwater players, staff and fans fuming.
It was a bitter pill to swallow for Town who lost their discipline to concede again five minutes later to trail 2-0 at half-time.
Town came out fighting in the second half and were unlucky not to pull a goal back when Jon Vance’s long range shot stung the palms of Kent Kaupennin in the Supermarine goal.
Skipper Chris McGrath also had his low, side-footed shot cleared off the line but the visitors rubbed salt into the Bridgwater Town wounds on 57 minutes with a third goal and a fourth minutes from time.
Bridgwater did have opportunities to score a consolation goal after Ross McNab latched on to Joe McClennan’s pinpoint cross but his shot rattled the woodwork. Dave Pearse sent a similar effort wide after some good work on the left by Craig Veal.
Town: Purnell, P.Veal, Thomas, Middleton, McGrath, Chamberlain (Mercieca 69), Fitzpatrick (C. Veal 69), McClennan, McNab, Pearse, Vance.
l TOWN Reserves lost 2-1 to St George Easton-in-Gordano on Saturday, despite taking the lead through Kenzie Farnham’s penalty after Michael Duffy was brought down in the box.
They travel to Shepton Mallet tonight (Tuesday) in the Premier Division Cup and are at home to Nailsea United in the league on Saturday.
