Somerset County League Division 2 West

Burnham United Reserves 4, Aston & Backwell Reserves 2

AFTER an indifferent month of two defeats and two wins, Burnham won for the second week in a row to leave them four points off the top.

Burnham got out of the blocks in quick fashion creating a number of chances in the first ten minutes but were not able to put the ball in the back of the net.

But it was the visitors who took the lead on the half-hour mark, a goal which seemed the spur both teams on.

It was not until the 40 minute that a Simon Smith rocket from 25 yards brought the game level after a good knock down by Joe Selway to draw level at 1-1 at the break.

In the second half, Burnham's back line of Biachi, Warren, Bidgood, Nelson and Lamb were more than holding their own and building attacks from the back and the creativity of the midfield of Cannard, Smith, Roberts and Leaf was creating more and more chances for the front two Selway and Cattell, which finally lead to Cattell running through and slotting the ball into the net.

That soon became 3-1 with Leaf being was put through after some fine play to slot the ball home.

Backwell responded to make it 3-2 but Burnham had the last laugh as Cattell got his second of the game rounding the keeper and passing it into the goal.

Manager Alex Taylor said: “I continue to be pleased with the team's progression, we are playing some really good football and continuing to progress as a team and players. No one has let me down and always tried to give their best. We will look to keep building week by week”.
