Bridgwater College football and basketball action
6:00pm Sunday 14th October 2012 in Somerset Sport
English School FA Cup
South Gloucestershire and Stroud 2, Bridgwater College 0
Bridgwater were undone by a strong second-half performance by the home Gloucestershire and Stroud side.
Tom Judge produced some good first half saves as defenders David Coley and Sam Hallett allowed Bridgwater to grow into the game.
Lee Villis and Callum Kennelly went close, both hitting the post, and some great footwork from Sam Anthony also provided an excellent opportunity but a good stop from the home side's keeper kept the scores level.
In the second half, the home side took the lead from a defensive lapse and sealed the win from a corner.
Manager Jason Gunningham said: “I am very pleased with the performance and commitment shown but it did not go our way today.”
Bridgwater College have a chance of revenge in their next home fixture against South Gloucestershire and Strode in the league tomorrow (Wednesday).
South-West British Colleges Basketball 1A League
Bridgwater College 60, South Gloucestershire & Stroud College 2nds 69
THIS was Bridgwater's best performance to date against a Bristol team and they come away feeling disappointed that they did not win.
Both teams couldn't pull away from each other with the lead changing four times in the first half and one team never getting more than six points ahead of the other.
Adam Lewis (19 points) put in an impressive performance and Jack Roberts (23 points) helped to keep Bridgwater in the game.
Unfortunately South Gloucestershire & Stroud College Mens Seconds were much more clinical in their finishing in the fourth quarter and closed out the game 69-60.
Manager Richard Anderson said: “It was definitely our game to lose, there were too many turnovers and we can't expect to beat anyone playing like that - it was disappointing.”
The academies next fixture is away to St. Brendans tomorrow (Wednesday).
