Burnham II 30, Morganians 15

BURNHAM were thankful of the heavy rain that fell on Friday night as their match with Morganians was switched to a home fixture easing their selection worries.

The game kicked off 10 minutes late, due a required change of shirts by the home team at the request of the referee.

The home side applying the pressure immediately on the Morg's forwards from the kick off which resulted in a knock on by the visiting pack but some quick thinking from Twinkle Toes, Bobby Hewlett, allowed him to gather the loose ball and sprint 30m for the first score of the game, converted by Alex Watkins 7-0.

Morgs replied immediately from the kick off and forced the home side back to their own the 5m line to score an unconverted try.

But a resilient Burnham team responded again and Hewlett scored his and the team's second try.

Morgs had the final score of the half with another unconverted try as Burnham lead 12-10 at the break.

But a try early in the second half from Burnham dented the confidence of Morgs as the home side stormed into a 19-10 lead.

Watkins added three points to the tally with a penalty inside the Morgs 22 and despite the visitors producing another try from the back of the scrum, Watkins slotted a penalty kick over to complete the scoring.

Next week, Burnham entertain high flying Somerton with a 3pm kick-off.

2nd XV training is this Tuesday and all players and colts are expected to turn up at 6.45pm.
