FOOTBALL: Wellington reserves push leaders all the way
7:30am Monday 8th October 2012 in Somerset Sport
Playing downhill in the first half Wellington knew this was their best chance to put pressure on Chard, but it did not work out that way as a long range shot was deflected past Chris McKee to give the home side the lead.
Wellington pressed hard and made Chard lose possession as they enjoyed a great end to the half; Jack Bryant drove one just over the bar and Simon Morton vollied one over as Wellington searched for an equaliser.
This good, dominant play was continued into the second half and the equaliser was coming and Jack Bryant made it count with a third goal of the season on the hour mark.
Sadly for Wellington the old adage that a side are at their most vulnerable when they have just scored was true as, having lost Luke Bryant at right back with a hamstring injury, replacement Adam Dawe was just a little late on trailing a Chard attacker who got in behind him to shoot across the goal and into the corner to give Chard the advantage once more.
Wellington pushed and pushed for a second equaliser, but it just would not come and this result sees the side in sixth place after six games.
Wellington: Chris McKee, Luke Bryant, James Rowley (c), Simon Morton, Jamie Fleet, Jack Bryant, Conor Bryant, Oli Nott, Nathan Thomas, Adam Dawe, Simon Dennehy. Subs - Sam Bryant (used), Joe Conway (used), Tom Phillips (used)
