Wellington Reserves are joint top of Division One of the Devon and Exeter League following a robust 1-0 win over Culm United at home yesterday.

The game was short on goal-scoring opportunities and it took a belter of a strike from Leon Collins to secure the points for Wellington.

On the quarter hour play was halted due to a serious ankle injury suffered by Wellington midfielder Danny Thomas.

Thomas landed awkwardly when going for a defensive header and his injury was made worse as a Culm player accidentally landed on him.

Conor Bryant is in blistering form currently and posed all sort of problems again as he weaved and meandered all over the pitch with some mazy dribbles and good accurate passing - all that was missing was a goal.

Joe Enticott and Nathan Thomas did well up top and were an aerial threat - particularly in the case of Thomas, but the score at the break was 0-0.

A screamer of a goal from Leon Collins settled matters as he volleyed home from distance and gave the Culm keeper no chance.

Oli Nott replaced Nathan Thomas towards the end and kept up the pressure with some hard work.

Wellington deserved their win and their joint top spot - although it did come at a cost as Danny Thomas is likely to be out for some time.

The team now embark on a series of away games and are not due to be home again until Saturday, November 10.

Exeter University 3rds are the oppostition next week.
