RUGBY: World record scrum attempt falls short
Wellington helped old rivals Winscombe RFC celebrate their 50th anniversary on Saturday.
The highlight of the day was a massive scrum featuring 351 players from adults to minis with a front row 20 adults across.
Initially Winscombe were intending to break the Guinness World Record, which for a long time stood at 384.
But three weeks before the event they discovered a new record of 730 had been set in the United States and it was too late to recruit the extra bodies.
Mike Williamson, Chairman of the Winscombe junior and mini sections: "It was disappointing not to beat the world record but at least we can claim it's the record for Somerset."
Wellington teams from Under-7 to Under-17 played their Winscombe counterparts in matches throughout the day.
