Burnham 2nd XV 7, Taunton 3rd XV 27

BURNHAM opened their league account with disappointment as they fell to a 27-7 defeat against Taunton 3rds.

The home side had a number of players missing but when the game started, Burnham showed some very good initiative with enterprising running, in particular Mark Coles and Ben Bowkett, to put the visitors under pressure.

But a well-drilled Taunton side capitalised on basic errors from the Burnham side to take the lead with an unconverted try.

More territory from Burnham thanks to determined running from Rob Lewis proved to no avail as Taunton were quick to reply and lead by 12 at half time.

In the second half, Burnham went into attack mode and overpowered Taunton with Lewis running over a try, converted by Mike Whitfield.

But that was the only cause for celebration for Burnham as Taunton ran over two more tries and despite a late rally the scores finished 27-7.

The next league game is against Tor 2nds away on Saturday.

*THE first team lost by one point in their match with Matson. The match finished 19-18 in favour of the home side. They take on North Bristol at home this Saturday.
