CRICKETERS from Queen’s College took part in the first girl’s cricket tournament at their own college with seven Somerset and Devon schools attending this innovative and successful day.

In the group stages Queen’s A team excelled, winning all of their eight over matches.

Haygrove School looked sharp throughout the tournament with some superb batting and bowling performances from their captain Cassie Coombs who later went on to win batswoman of the tournament.

In the afternoon, Queen’s beat Uffculme. The Devon school fielded exceptionally well to restrict Queen’s to 45 from their 10 overs but in a nail biting finish Georgie Longbottom, who was later crowned bowler of the tournament, bowled a maiden over to help win the game by one run.

The final between Queen’s A and Haygrove did not disappoint with the result coming in the last over, a narrow three run victory for the Bridgwater-based school.

The competition was organised by ex-Somerset and Hampshire cricketer Flo Broderick to bring other girls in the area together for competitive cricket and England and Somerset player Fran Wilson presented the trophies.
