THE Taunton Sunday League fixtures saw 12 ties in the second round of the Gardner Cup and big surprise of the day was Division 3 The Grove’s 5-1 victory over Division 1 Holway.

Two goals apiece from Simon Davies and Matt Durban 2, and one from Kevin Pearse did the damage.

There were big wins for top division sides Bathpool and Tone Youth. Bathpool trounced Ash Rangers Reserves 10-1, the scoring being shared around with two each for Tom Edwards, Luke Oliver and Mark Fitzgerald and one a piece for Karl Farrel, Dave Berry, Anthony Bertwhistle and Jay Cross.

Tone Youth had an 8-0 win away win at Division 4 Blue Park Rangers. Scott Drayton hit a hat-trick, Aaron Lake 2, and one each from, Dan Toft, Grant Mercer and Kyle Sear.

Other Division 1 sides safely through are Staplegrove, who beat Wellington Old Boys 3-1– Adam Smith, Charlie Collins and Matt Sidley scored their goals, with Daniel Woodgate scoring for the Old Boys; and Ash Rangers, who enjoyed a good 7-1 win at FC Princess Royal.

Royal did well to take Ash to extra time with a depleted side but Ash scored six times without reply in that extra period, Aaron Sellick hitting a hat-trick, Terry Mckiernan two, Joe Wilkinson and Richard Maslen hit one each. Mark Kmita scored for Royal.

Two late Scott Cleal goals helped Black Horse through against a plucky North Curry side who led through a Matt Bawden goal before having a man sent off and paying the price. Creech won 4-1 at Ark Rangers, James Costigan scoring twice, and Ryan Holloway and Scott Taylor one apiece.

Old Inn edged out Spaxton 3-2 after extra time, Luke Green (2) and Mike Kearly scored for Old Inn with James Bell and Kevin Coles keeping Spaxton in touch.

Adam Sturt and Mike Newberry goals put Pegasus 2-0 up against Flying Fins but the Fins produced a fine comeback scoring three times in the last 15 minutes. Trinity Rangers won 3-1 at Wyndham Arms, Dan Cox, Robert Meigh and Lloyd Shirley scoring Trinity’s goals with Nigel Jeffries replying.

A 5-4 penalty shoot out win saw Division 4 DB United through against Division 2 Cotford Saints, Luke Fox’s two goals for DB helped them to pull off a bit of a shock.

In the only Division 1 league game of the day, Westford secured a fine 4-2 victory over PQR. Luke Desave put PQR 1-0 up but Westford hit back almost immediately through Scott Chidgey.

Craig Plumbridge’s two goals and a Lee Hellier strike made sure for Westford but they had a man sent off and conceded a late penalty to spoil an otherwise great day.

Division 3 saw Churchinford hammer The Eagle Tavern 8-0. Joe Crean had a good day scoring four, Chris Roberts scored two, with Jake Phillips and Jake Welch adding one each.

Wellington Warriors went top of Division 4 in emphatic style as they walloped Williton 11-1. Luke Perry continued his prolific scoring spell hitting four to make it 13 in five games. Hat-tricks for Jamie Fleet and Martin Janco and a Martin Lawrence goal completed the rout.
