Gillingham 1, Yeovil Town 0: Glovers slow to start

YEOVIL Town's 1-0 defeat at Gillingham in the Coca-Cola League One could have been a lot worse.

Gillingham, who have been in good form at home this season, flew out of the traps at the first whistle and put the visiting Glovers under the cosh.

Simeon Jackson netted his 12th goal of the season to break the deadlock in the opening stages.

It came from the penalty spot after Yeovil defender Stefan Stam was adjudged to have fouled Febian Brandy inside the box.

Gillingham - who were looking for their first League success over Yeovil - went in search for a second and Brandy, on loan with the Gills from Manchester United, hit the bar.

Yeovil keeper Alex McCarthy, one of the Glovers' heroes on Saturday during the 1-1 draw with Charlton Athletic at Huish Park, had to tip Barry Fuller's long-range free-kick on to the post.

Although Yeovil boss Terry Skiverton tried to get his side back into the game with a number of formation changes, it was not to be and the game was all but over when midfielder JP Kalala was sent-off for a second bookable offence.
