Table tennis: Kings end Valiants' run

PREMIER Division leaders Trinity Kings ruthlessly took the final unbeaten record in the Ark Removals Taunton Table Tennis League by systematically dismantling Saints Valiants.

Jon Hughes led the way with a maximum, Vince Jackson contributed a possible, John Troke was the only casualty, losing in straight games to Chris Whale.

Reigning champions Saints Raiders find themselves 26 points behind the Kings, but with a game in hand, after maximums from Ed Martin and Alan Stone accounted for YMCA Reds.

After winning their first four matches, No Saints have reached the halfway stage with five defeats on the trot. Just one point separated them from The Levellers for whom Josef Skuril hit a possible and Marc Jenkins won twice, with Chris Norman picking up two for the Saints.

A Mike Crook maximum and two fine wins against the Gillard brothers by Jackie Crook brought Ark Angels a win over Saints Sabres. Mike Hurley kept the Sabres in the hunt with two wins and with just two points between the teams after nine sets, Mr and Mrs Crook still had work to do in the double to secure the match.

In Division One Mike Hughes recorded his 21st win from 21 starts, but his table topping Monday Knights were pipped by a single point at YMCA Rainbows, where Craig King and Jon Cross won two apiece.

Dave Newbery hit a maximum and Rosie Smith a possible as Golledge Eagles swamped Little Saints, who had a Zac Denton win over Roy Harrison as their only reply.

Steve Smith hit a hat-trick in Chameleons win at YMCA Marauders. John Watson two, beaten in five games by Natalie Lawrence.

SAINTS A lead the way in Division One of the St Augustine School Table Tennis Club Development League.

The team of Ricky King, Zach Denton and Clare Sykes are unbeaten, while Peter Stiles and Linda Yang from High Fyers are close behind in second.
