YEOVIL Town boss Terry Skiverton has said that the days of "lumping" the ball forward in hope are gone.

Skiverton told the BBC following Saturday's 1-0 victory over Southend United at Huish Park that he is trying to get his team to play a "technical" game.

"I think that sometimes our supporters don't realise the way that we are trying to play football," he said.

"We're not just going to lump it in the box and go long.

"We're going to play a technical game, which is to move people about, and when that final ball is ready, it will present itself.

"We're not going to try and force it."

The "lumping" the ball forward on Saturday would not have worked in any case because of a strong wind and Yeovil's attack play certainly caused Southend problems - especially in the first-half - where the Glovers produced chance after chance only to be denied by former keeper Steve Mildenhall.

Skiverton added: "The way that Southend played was very difficult.

"They played a 4-4-1 and they were very difficult to break down. They sat in their holes. But we still created loads of chances."

And he said: "There's still that thing where we've still got to be that little bit more clinical, but I was very pleased with the performance.

"I felt that the areas that Ryan Mason picked up that they couldn't pick him up, and he was always dangerous."
