Middlezoy Rovers 1, Stockwood Wanderers 0

MIDDLEZOY faced in-form Stockwood Wanderers on Saturday and from the start it was clear why Stockwood had been picking up a lot of wins lately.

The visitors kept the ball well and looked to build from the back, however for all their early possession in the opening 10 minutes Stockwood never troubled Greg Turner in the Zoy goal as the hosts were very organised and hard to break down.

After the opening exchanges had settled down, Zoy began to grow into the game and found a breakthrough on 15 minutes.

A short corner from Craig Wright found Dan Luce, who beat the defender and drilled in a low cross which Callum Laird slotted home from six yards out.

Zoy were now on top for the first time in the half and could have furthered their lead had Andy Smith shown more composure when the ball was cut back to him on the penalty spot but sliced his effort wide.

The rest of the half was mainly played out in the midfield as neither side could create a clear opening, with the two goalkeepers just spectators.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with neither side creating many chances but both looking dangerous on the break without finding the clinical final ball.

Stockwood had the majority of the possession in the second period but rarely troubled Turner as Zoy defended brilliantly.

It was the home side who probably had the better chances to further their lead but nothing clear cut as they held on for a 1-0 win.
