Les Phillips Cup
Cadbury Heath 0, Chard Town 3 (aet)

CHARD Town pulled off a tremendous win against Premier Division side Cadbury Heath in the first round of the Les Phillips Cup on Saturday.

The cup tie went into extra time following a goalless 90 minutes, with the Robins running out clear winners.

The first half saw the Heathens enjoy most of the early attacking play with some classy football, but some poor finishing by the home side and good defensive work from Chard meant they could not break through, while the visitors gradually grew into the game.

After the break, Heath's Sam Bailey hit the bar, while for Chard Max Westlake saw an effort put behind for a corner.

Both sides continued to create chances, but it remained goalless at full time.

With weather conditions deteriorating and the ground becoming heavy, extra time was something of a lottery, but with Chard’s subs David Duarte and Matt Howell on they claimed the vital opening goal 10 minutes in.

A ball from Howell won a corner, and Westlake's cross found Kieran Bailey in position to rise above the defence and head the ball home.

The Heathens' Simon McElroy shot just wide on 115 minutes, but with Stephen Friend on for Westlake, the Robins had a second some four minutes later.

With the home defence out of position, Friend was quick to take on the lone defender and went through to score with a well-positioned shot to the keeper's right.

The victory was complete with almost the last kick of the game, as James Boyland's first-time strike from an acute angle found the net.

This was a great team effort to overcome opponents from a higher level, taking the club through to the next round.

Chard Town: Jonathan Hill, Ben Haines, Oliver Pearson, Andy Holmes (David Duarte 88), Kieran Bailey, Luke Jackson (Matt Howell 70), Max Westlake (Steven Friend 115), Jack Dicker, Taoufik Ben-Salem, James Boyland, Liam Cleal.
