Buildbase FA Vase - second round
Sholing FC 2, Wellington AFC 1

BYRON Mason's late, late winner broke Wellington's hearts and sent Sholing into the third round of the FA Vase.

The visitors had put in a brave performance as underdogs in Hampshire, as Connor Pengelly had a header cleared off the line and Ian Bellinger saw a shot saved.

And they took the lead seven minutes before half time, when Pengelly was left unmarked at a corner to powerfully head home.

The home side were greatly improved after the break, but even so Wellington held out until the 69th minute, when Owen Royl's cross-shot deceived keeper Tom Welch and found the net.

The visitors were clinging on now, but looked to have forced extra time until Mason popped up to head in the deciding goal.

Wellington are in cup action again next Saturday, as they host Westbury United in the Les Phillips Cup first round (ko 3pm).

Wellington AFC: Tom Welch, Tim Legg, George Painter, Tom Ellis (c), Joe Chamberlain, Glenn Wright, Sam Towler, Jack Bryant (Jack Porter 81), Conor Pengelly (Mitchell Woodgate 55), Ian Bellinger, Connor Bryant. Sub not used: Sam Bryant.
