Middlezoy Rovers 3, Clutton 2

MIDDLEZOY faced another newly-promoted side on Saturday, this time Clutton at home.

After slow starts in recent weeks, this time Zoy began with more purpose, closing the opposition down at every opportunity.

This early pressure was rewarded on 20 minutes when a shot from Jed Williams was not held by the Clutton keeper, and Craig Wright tapped in the rebound from close range.

This lead was doubled 10 minutes later, when Wright headed in a corner via a deflection.

But just as it looked like Zoy would go into half time 2-0 up, they let the away side back into the game.

Williams lost the ball on the halfway line and, with the Middlezoy defence out of position, the visitors broke forward and scored.

Zoy started the second half well, and on the hour Wright gave them some breathing space with a brilliantly-taken scissor kick in off the far post, completing his hat-trick.

That should have been it, but Zoy conceded just five minutes later, as a free-kick on the edge of the box was well dispatched.

This lead to a nervy finale, but it finished 3-2 to Zoy, who sit fifth in the table ahead of next Saturday’s match with Shirehampton, again at home (ko 3pm).

Stockwood Green 2, Bridgwater Town Reserves 2

BRIDGWATER Town Reserves were made to pay for missed opportunities as they had to settle for a point on Saturday.

This was very fortunate point for Stockwood, as Town piled pressure on the home side from the outset.

The visitors took the lead on 20 minutes, as keeper Paul Goss saved a one-on-one situation and Tyne Govier turned defence into attack with a ball over the top, Lee Villis latching onto it and scoring.

Stockwood levelled on 50 minutes from a corner, and although Town continued to dominate possession and chances, the hosts went ahead with 10 minutes left.

Goss appeared to have two hands on the ball, but striker Salvage poked it free to make it 2-1.

Behind despite their fine play, Town did at least earn a point (which took them up to 14th in the table) as Will Sneddon-Coombes took aim from 25 yards and found the top corner.

This coming Saturday, the Reserves are at home to fourth-placed Nailsea & Tickenham (ko 3pm).
