VETERAN golfer David Beale shrugged off a temporary loss of form which saw his handicap increase by two shots to take two major prizes at Vivary Golf Club.

He stormed to a net 58 in the Seniors August Medal, eclipsing the valiant nett 60 of Pete Jeffery who was playing off a handicap of nine.

Barrie Cridland and Colin Woodford both recorded 61 but Cridland had the better back nine.

In the Tudor Humphreys Stableford, Beale totted up an impressive 44 points to leave Chris Heaslewood second behind on 40, with Phillip Hussey the best on count-back of five players with 38.

Beale figured again in the Seniors August Cup where he and Barrie Cridland tied with 41 but countback prevented Beale from winning three in a row and he had to be satisfied with second and his handicap back to 16.

Bob Stock and Dennis Whatmore both recorded 39 but Stock had the better back nine for third place.

The John Wright Putter Pairs Betterball failed to produce any startling results, but Dave Hinton and Peter Bond won comfortably with 42 points, two clear of Phil Nicholls and John Shove, and also Richard Brown and John Hughes.

Countback put the Nicholls’ pairing second.
