WILL Stokes, from Chilton Trinity, made his final preparations for the English Schools National Combined Events Championships at the weekend by competing in the Yeovil Games 2017 at the Bill Whistlecroft Arena.
He was competing in just the 80m hurdles and high jump, as the day was all about preparation for the English Schools nationals next week in Boston.
With competitions limited during recent weeks due to the school holidays, Stokes has been training on a regular basis over the summer months, with the Mill Health & Fitness Suite in Fiddington supporting his preparations.
With an extremely strong headwind, the 80m hurdles was always going to give the athletes a difficult race, but Stokes finished the race just 0.23 seconds off his personal best.
SUCCESS: Will Stokes.
The high jump brought success for Will, who took first place in the Under-15 Boys with a personal best leap of 160cm.
Next week Will travels to Boston with the four-man Somerset team hoping to gain a podium position in the English Schools Combined Events Championships.
