BURNHAM were without a match in Division 2 of the Shrubbery Hotel Cricket League on Saturday, and both Huntspill & District and Lympsham & Belvedere were frustrated by the weather in Division 4.

Lympsham would have had particular grievance with the rain given the situation they found themselves in at the time of the abandonment, having reduced hosts Castle Cary to 16-3 in their pursuit of 182 to win.

Jack Luff (64) and Samuel McCrea (42) impressed with the bat in Lympsham’s total of 181-7, with McCrea then taking 3-10 before rain intervened after just 11 overs of the home team’s reply.

Lympsham picked up 24 useful points from the draw.

There was far less action at Huntspill, who saw visiting Ilton make 40-1 in the only play that was possible.

Wedmore were similarly frustrated by the elements in their quest for victory against Winscombe 2nds in Division 6N, with the adverse conditions denying them what looked a certain win.

Opener J. Burgess hit an unbeaten 55 as Wedmore set their visitors 133 to win, and Winscombe were 32-6 when the rain came.

Wedmore picked up 24 points from the draw, with Winscombe claiming 19.

East Huntspill were fortunate to be unaffected by the weather and took full advantage, defeating Weston-super-Mare 3rds by five wickets.

R. Crocker took 3-24 as Weston were bowled out for 124 before M. Edwards led the reply with an unbeaten 40 as the visitors earned 35 points from the victory.

Huntspill & District had the better of the play that was available in the local derby against Mark, reducing the hosts to 64-8 before the downpour.

D. Tippetts took 3-11, with N. Jones and T. Dibble taking two apiece as only N. Ollerenshaw (14) and S. Tinklin (22) made it into double figures for the home side.

Stuart Bruce starred with 5-20 to set his Lympsham & Belvedere 2nds side on their way to a seven-wicket win over Churchill 2nds.

Jon Lodge (2-17) and Kevin Crockett (2-19) also impressed as Churchill were skittled for 105, and Crockett then made a quickfire 50 with the bat as Lympsham got their skates on with more rain forecast.

After Crockett holed out, it was left to Tom Cates (11*) and Brian Hosey (14*) to see the hosts home and take them to the top of the Division 8N table ahead of next week’s trip to Weston-super-Mare 4ths.

Wedmore 2nds failed to raise a side for their match at Purnells 2nds, and consequently find themselves docked 30 points.
