Burnham United 1, Cleeve West Town 2

AFTER winning the last four league games at the Bay Club, Burnham went into the game vs Cleeve West Town full of confidence of extending their run.

It was the away team, however, who took the lead in the 17th minute when the Cleeve striker shot home from 18 yards, and five minutes later Burnham were 2-0 down.

Matt Scott pulled a goal back for Burnham before half-time to give the home side a foothold in the game.

In the second half Burnham had lots of possession but were unable to create any real clear chances to equalise.

The best chance falling to Russell Holley with minutes remaining, but his strong header was just over.

Weston St John 1, Burnham United Reserves 3

THE Reserves stunned promotion-chasing Weston St Johns with a battling 3-1 victory.

The Reserves started the game well looking comfortable and organised, in particular the middle midfield trio of debutant Jesse McQuaid, Declan Christie and Mike Burnell linking well in middle.

Burnham made their good start count when Stuart Green managed to find half a yard in the box to make it 1-0.

Green then made it 2-0 a few minutes later.

Burnham, after a frantic start, stepped off the pace and sat on their two-goal lead until half time.

Burnham went in the second half knowing that another goal would make it very difficult for St Johns and they got their wish when Cain Smith forced a corner out of the full-back.

The resulting corner from Smith found Burnell who coolly headed it into the top corner of the net.

Burnham then went into defensive mode for the reminder of the half and managed to see it home, with the hosts only managing to put one past the impressive Will Dyson in goal.

Cheddar A 1, Burnham A 1

WITH a strong wind behind them Cheddar attacked the Burnham goal for the majority of the first half and scored early on.

Cheddar had free-kicks and corners, but Burnham's whole defensive unit stayed strong, knowing the wind was helping the home side.

Near the end of the half, Burnham scored against the run of play, Jeff Smith netting a strong header from an Ollie Taylor delivery.

The wind died down in the second half and Burnham were unable to use this to their advantage.

With both teams desperate not to lose, defensive units won the day, with Steve Warren clearing one off the line towards the end.
