A FIRST-HALF brace by Jordan Rogers was enough for Taunton Town to see off visitors Yate Town and stay third in the Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West.

Matt Villis and Brett Trowbridge were back in the Peacocks starting XI with both Ed Palmer and Shane White banned, and after an uneventful opening the hosts took the lead on 21 minutes when Rogers' back post header was deflected into the net.

Matt Wright then fired wide as Taunton looked to double their advantage, which they eventually managed on 38 minutes when Rogers struck again.

The home side could have gone into the break further in front but Ollie Chamberlain missed the target with an opportunity just before the interval, which arrived with the Peacocks two goals to the good.

A third goal continued to prove elusive in the second period as Owen Irish came close before Rogers nearly completed his hat-trick, and Leigh Robinson's side also survived a let-off late on when Yate hit the bar with five minutes remaining.

In the end, however, the clean sheet remained intact and Taunton were able to celebrate a victory that keeps them in the top three.

Taunton Town: L Irish, Mitchell (Searle), Staley, O Irish, Villis, Hoyle, Chamberlain (Veal), Trowbridge, Wright, Rogers, Buse (B Palmer).
