Somerset County Premier
Berrow 3, Yatton Athletic 6

BERROW suffered a home defeat to bottom side Yatton Athletic, the hosts scoring three goals but conceding six.

Strikes from Anthony Cleave, Jamie Howson and player-manager Dave Keirle were not enough to prevent the visitors claiming only their second win of the season.

Alex Bird and Josh Gibbs grabbed braces for Yatton, in addition to goals from James Copeland and Jason Coupland.

The result leaves Berrow 13th in the table, with 15 points from 14 games, now only seven clear of the bottom club, who close within a point of Clevedon United, Berrow’s next opponents.

BERROW Reserves won 4-3 at home to Worle Rangers in Division 2 of the Weston & District League.

Lewis Cheeseman claimed a hat-trick, with the other goal for the home side scored by veteran Ryan McErlain.

The victory sees them sit fifth in the table having played six matches, won three and lost three.

Congresbury 3, Burnham United 1

TWO own goals proved the difference as Burnham United fell to a 3-1 defeat away to Congresbury in Somerset County Division One West.

United did in fact take the lead inside 10 minutes, Paul Grant the scorer.

But from there things fell apart for the visitors, giving Congresbury their first victory of the season.

Russell Holley put through his own net on the half-hour mark, and things got worse for United as the home side took the lead with the last kick of the first half.

Burnham spent the second half chasing a way back into the game but were frustrated by the Congresbury defence.

That frustration was compounded late on – and the game wrapped up for Congresbury – when Grant scored at the wrong end this time, his own goal giving the hosts a 3-1 win.

Defeat leaves United ninth in the table, level on seven points with Cleeve West Town, and three points off Minehead AFC in eighth spot.

Somerset County Division 1W
Highbridge Town 1, Glastonbury 1

JACK Hirons’ strike was only enough to secure a draw for Highbridge at home to bottom club Glastonbury, the result giving the visitors their first point of the season.

Highbridge are fifth on 13 points, but lose ground on the leading clubs in the division, with Ilminster winning at Somerton.
