TAUNTON Town are bracing themselves for the visit of old rivals Tiverton Town in the FA Cup preliminary round on Saturday – with a number of former Peacocks players back at the Viridor Stadium.

Ex-Town captain Jamie Price, along with Jamie Short and Ben Carter, all made the switch to the Yellows in the summer and will add extra spice to the tie.

The Peacocks beat Odd Down and Tuffley Rovers last season on their way to the second qualifying round, where they bowed out to Truro City after a replay.

“We had a reasonable run last year, a lot better last year than I think for the last decade so that was good,” said Taunton boss Leigh Robinson.

“Essentially when you’re in the FA Cup, you know you’re not going to win it, it’s about the prize money which is fantastic and, if we can go a few rounds, then it would be great for the club. It keeps clubs going.

“This year we’ve got a tough game down here against Tiverton and so many of our ex players, so it’ll be a bit a bit of a war, we know that.

"But that is cup football and we’ll go out and try and sneak our way through and get the prize money.”

Taunton go into the game on the back of a 2-1 defeat at Wimborne Town on Tuesday night in Southern League Division One South & West.

The Peacocks were beaten by two goals in each half from Tobias Holmes, while Matt Wright replied for Taunton eight minutes from time – his fourth league goal in as many games since joining the club from Truro in the summer.

On his side’s start to the campaign, Robinson said: “It’s been an interesting first week.

“We’ve been a little bit hot and cold but, as I said in the week, people have got to remember that this is a very new side where we’re trying to introduce five or six new players.

“Our pre-season was quite disjointed as well and, through the season, every team is going to have disappointments, it’s going to happen all the time.

“It’s about how well you react.

“Because we had such a rebuild in the summer and losing quite a lot of players, partly through choice and partly players moving on, it’s just about trying to get the new team to gel on the pitch and off the pitch, which can be the difficult thing .”
