BBC football pundit Steve Claridge played more than 800 games for almost 30 different clubs in a long career and will be bringing all his experience to the Viridor Stadium along with his Salisbury FC side on Saturday, writes Kerry Miller.

They will face a Taunton Town side who could not capitalise on a fine start at Shortwood United when they went down to a Barnstaple Town goal in the fifth minute of injury time on Tuesday night.

It was a cruel blow made all the worse as it came from an ex-Bridgwater Town striker in Dave Pearse but Town can not complain as they created little and the Devon side will be well pleased with four points from their first two games in the Southern League.

Peacocks’ boss Leigh Robinson will need to weave some magic as his side go into a busy period which won’t get any easier starting on Saturday against a club which was the immediate successor to Salisbury City, which crashed and burned a couple of years ago.

The Whites are expected to bring 200 supporters which will provide an atmosphere which was lacking last night despite the healthy 280 strong crowd.

Next Tuesday Town travel to the Cuthbury to take on Wimborne Town who have hit the ground running following a dismal season last time around.

They began, like Taunton, with a three goal victory, beating Bishops Cleeve 4-1 at home with three second half goals and cemented that on Tuesday with a single goal success at Paulton Rovers.

Town will need to be aware of striker Toby Holmes who has been on target in both games for the Dorset club although if they can replicate last season’s superb away form, Tuesday’s set back will hopefully be no more than that.

The club are running a coach to Wimborne, cost just £5 and those interested should email admin@tauntontown.com or ring the office on 01823) 254909.

Then on Saturday week Martyn Rogers returns to Taunton with his Tiverton Town side in the FA Cup prelimnary round.
