A THREE-way countback was required to decide the winner of the Seniors May Medal at Brean Golf Club on Tuesday morning.

No player matched par in the field with nett 71's being the benchmark and three of those were posted.

Roger Phillips and George Thomas from the second division were joined by one first division player in the form of Pete Douglas.

It was Phillips who claimed the overall win with a better back nine than the other two.

Douglas was the runner-up and Division One winner, whilst Thomas had to settle for runners-up spot to Phillips in the second flight.

Tony Roper won another countback to secure the Division One runner up prize ahead of Barrie Yearsley.

The Division Two team in the Avalon League secured another home win as they defeated Farrington Park by the odd game in five.

Steve Bateman led his troops to a 3-2 victory in the damp conditions on Saturday in their last home game for a month.

The next fixtures see them clocking up the miles with long treks to Orchardleigh and Cricket St Thomas ahead of their next home game in late June.

The following day, the Division Five team had another halved match this time against Long Sutton.

On a bright and breezy Sunday afternoon, the match finished all square at 2.5 games apiece.

The team will now be looking to better that result later in the season when they contest the return leg at the course near Langport.

Clive Goode won the May Monthly Medal in Division Two with his nett 67, which was also the best overall score of a damp day.

Trevor Pitt matched that score but lost out to Goode on a back nine countback in the middle flight of the three.

Steve Jones matched par to win the First Division by four from Phil Hodgson whilst a pair of one over par 70's topped the Division Three scorecharts. Another countback was required to be applied to Tony Slade and Rich Lambert's scores to decide the winner with Lambert just edging it on the homeward run.

Chris Payne won a countback over the back nine holes to pip Matt Shaw in the opening round of the new Super Series event played on Sunday.

Both players scored 40 points but Payne racked up 22 of his on the second nine to take top spot.

Third place was filled by Phil Aspinall with his 39 point return.
