Huntspill & District 129 beat Wincanton 121 by eight runs

HUNTSPILL and District claimed their first victory of the season with a narrow win over Wincanton.

The visitors were asked to bat first and the innings started in the worst possible fashion with Calvin Nayagam falling to the first of the match.

Progress was slow on a tricky surface and with regular wickets falling, Huntspill were soon 35-5 off 21 overs.

Mark Crawford and last week's hero Brandon Durkin set about the rebuild, both playing with freedom which others had struggled to find.

The pair took the score past 100 before they both fell in quick succession for 32 and 37 respectively.

After these vital innings were ended, Huntspill took their score to 129 before being bowled out. Ryan with 2-10 the pick of the bowlers.

A big performance with the ball was required and they got it with Crawford and Organ both making early breakthroughs.

Ryan and Lane had the chase in control, but skipper Lillycrop removed Lane and Garner took a double breakthrough to edge Huntspill back into the game. Crawford returned to take his second wicket but Wincanton were soon within 25 runs of victory with four wickets in hand and Ryan was well set having passed his half century.

But there was one final twist, with Lillycrop 3-29 and Tom Garner 4-29 taking the final four wickets for 16 runs to seal an eight-run win and leave Ryan stranded on 72.
