Middlezoy Rovers 8 Street Reserves 1

MIDDLEZOY cruised to a comfortable win to make it 19 wins and two draws and continue their unbeaten league season.

On the day that the Middlezoy Rovers were presented with the league championship trophy, they picked up their biggest win of the season against Street Reserves who they had beaten by six on the opening day of the season.

Doubles from Max Cushing and Jed Williams were supplemented by strikes from Harrison Puplett, Adam Prescott, Andy Smith and Dan Luce, but the visitors actually took the lead inside the first four minutes.

Playing from the start with ten men and with Rob Hill off the pitch being treated for injury, Harry Messenger latched on to Pete Applegate’s quick throw in as the hosts were caught napping at the back against nine men.

Middlezoy did not take long to strike back, Cushing knocking the ball in the net from close range on eight minutes.

Luce was then fouled inside the area two minutes later and dusted himself off to roll the ball past Hill now playing in goal for a patched up Street side.

The remainder of the half saw Middlezoy keep possession with ease but they were largely frustrated by a well organised visiting side who had nine men behind the ball throughout.

Two minutes after the break Cushing’s cross was miss-kicked by Williams, but Puplett was on hand to rattle home his first senior goal low into the corner of the net.

Williams then scored the fourth himself from close range after the Street defence failed to clear and as the ten men started to tire Middlezoy started to make their substitutions.

Prescott came into the midfield and released Smith on the hour mark, last week’s match winner finishing well under pressure from the goalkeeper to make it five. Williams and Cushing again combined for the latter to score Middlezoy’s sixth on 68 minutes. Greg Turner then set up Williams for his second of the afternoon, before Prescott completed the rout from distance on 81 minutes.
