DAVID Dixon, fresh from his successful trip to European Tour School last week, finished joint third in the Gloucester and Somerset PGA Medal played at The Mendip GC last week.

The Enmore Park golfer shot a level par 71 to share third place with Cirencester’s Ed Goodwin.

Gloucester Golf Club teaching professional Ross Langdon took full advantage of the absence of his nearest rivals to create a very healthy lead in the Total Triumph Order of Merit.

He shared first place with George Ryall after they both shot three under par 68’s.

Langdon’s nearest challengers at the start of the day, Louis Boston and Dan Toogood, were both away on PGA training courses and upon their return they will find the leader is a bit further away into the distance.

Langdon was untroubled by facial injury, caused when he lost an argument with a piece of wood during the week, as he compiled a card showing five birdies and just a pair of bogies.

After an opening par he picked up his first two birdies at the second and fourth holes. Sandwiched in between them was a bogey at the fourth and another dropped shot came at the seventh.

From then on it was all shots gained to par though as he collected three more birdies at the ninth, 10th and 14th holes to take his second win of the season.

For George Ryall it was his first taste of success of the winter campaign and, like Langdon, carded five birdies which were offset by two bogies.

Reigning Total Triumph Order of Merit Champion Giuseppe Licata had a frustrating finish to his round dropping three shots in the last four holes but he still moved ahead of Toogood in the standings into third with his 72, giving him a tie for fifth with Paul Ryder.

Next Wednesday the G&S PGA make their first foray of the winter into the Forest of Dean with Forest Hills GC being the destination for the next event.
