NORTH Petherton soared back to the top of the WEPL Somerset Division with a crushing 183-run victory over Butleigh on Saturday.

Koot Pienaar scored a brilliant century for Pethy as they amassed 284-7 and Lewis Knight added a quick-fire 65 lower down the order.

Pienaar’s century included ten fours and is his second in the league this season.

In reply, Butleigh could only muster 102, with Alistair Bunce (3-18) and Ian Blackwell (2-13) the pick of the Pethy attack.

In the Somerset Cricket League Division Seven, Wembdon Wyverns were five-wicket winners at home to Uphill Castle Cavaliers, thanks to 5-47 from Alistair Cook and 4-44 from G. Howes.

The pair helped bowl the visitors out for 170, before A. Rees (58no) guided Wembdon home.

Elsewhere in the division, North Petherton 2nd XI beat Taunton Deane Crusaders by one wicket in the final over – while in Division 8N, Bridgwater Sports slumped to a 125-run defeat at home to Banwell and Churchill.

Also in 8N, Wembdon Academy were all out for 101 in a 162-run thrashing at temple Cloud 2nd XI, despite 51 from C. Savage.

Bridgwater A fell 74 runs short at league leaders Cheddar in Division One.

K. Devitt (4-32) and T. Hill (2-43) were the pick of the Bridgwater bowlers as Cheddar posted 205-7 batting first, but the visitors were all out for 131 in reply, with T. Hill (33) top scoring.

In Division Two, North Newton suffered a 110-run defeat at Ilton.
