SCB Major Cup
Bridgwater 206-5 (20 overs) beat Chard 104 (16.3ovs) by 102 runs
BRIDGWATER moved into the final of the SCB Major Cup with a resounding win over Premier Two side Chard at the Denning Field.
On winning the toss, skipper Steve Davis led the way in positive fashion with a superbly struck 83 of only 37 balls, as he and Chris Gange (33) put on 111 in only 8 overs to set up a mammoth total.
Davis' total included six sixes and seven fours as the Chard bowling had no answer to the assault.
Stuart Butt (19) and Danny Van der Berg (41no), including three sixes in the last over, kept up the early momentum to set a daunting target.
With 10 coming off the first over, the home side were up with the rate for the only time in the match as Bridgwater's bowling applied the pressure. Good spells from Chris Singleton (2-18) van der Berg (2-7) and Andy Roberts (4-19) from his four overs, saw Chard all out for 102 in the 17th over, with only Harry Dening (36no) and George Retter (21) offering any real resistance.
Bridgwater will now play Lansdowne in the final of the SCB Major Cup at the County Ground on Sunday, August 9 at 1pm.
Bridgwater 2nd XI cruised into the final of the SCB Intermediate Cup with a nine-wicket demolition of Purnells on Sunday.
