BREAN moved into the semi-final's of the Somerset Bowl after a comprehensive whitewash of Vivary Park at Orchardleigh on Sunday.

All ten players were on top form and led by team captain Steve Bateman, they won every game to secure the 5-0 score line and progression to the last four.

The first staging of the Boom Boom Cup was contested on Saturday at Brean, as just under 90 members and friends joined to remember former member Keith Porter.

The format was a four-player Texas Scramble and the weather was glorious throughout the day.

The winning quartet included the in-form Steve Bateman, alongside his son Alec and the Jones brothers of Paul and Steve.

They scorched around in just 58 shots and when their handicap allowance was deducted, they were a shade over 16 shots under par.

They had some close challengers though as Jerry Brueford, Roy Fletcher, Steve Payne and John Brewer ran them close with their nett 54.3 to claim second spot.

Some of Brean's newer members filled third spot with Aaron Puddy, Adam Cox, Scott Lismore and Scott's father Pete from Burnham and Berrow joining forces for a nett 56.6.

The final prize went to Eamonn Wynne, Les Clutterbuck, David Holt and Jordan Harris for their 57.3 score just ahead of a raft of other score in the 57's.

Jason Kidley was this week's Midweek Stableford winner with a 42 point card.

He led a trio of 40+ point scorers with runner up Steve Eley finishing just one behind on 41.

Third place went to new member Aaron Puddy who finished 3rd on 40 in just his second competition.
