WEPL Premier One 2nd XI

Bridgwater 2nd XI 326-8 beat Corsham 64 by 262 runs

TODD Barrett’s century set-up another crushing win for Bridgwater 2nd XI, this time over Corsham, as the reigning WEPL Premier One champions kept up the pressure current leaders Bath.

Barrett scored 107 from 120 balls at the top of the order, including 14 fours, while John Hill (79no) and Josh Horler (56) both chipped in with quick-fire half-centuries as the hosts amassed 326-8 from 45 overs.

The Corsham reply was a tame one, as they were blown away by a rampant Bridgwater attack.

Tim Hill (3-22) followed up his earlier heroics with the bat with an impressive display with the new ball, while Matt Habberfield (3-8) cleaned up the tail to finish with three wickets of his own.

Ian Higgins (2-11) and Ed Habberfield (2-20) shared the remaining four wickets between them.

Bridgwater won the toss and elected to bat first, but lost in-form opener Liam Kitch (1) and Jonathan Vickery (11) early on.

But coming to the crease at 36-2, Horler was in no such trouble, bludgeoning six fours and three sixes on his way to fifty – while at the other end, Barrett went about his business in more sedate fashion as the pair put on 129 for the third wicket.

Hill picked up where Horler had left off with a 55-ball 79, including four towering sixes, to take the score past the 300-mark – but not after Barrett had brought up an impressive century before departing for 107.

In reply, Corsham reached 22 before losing their first wicket – and soon went on to lose their next nine for just 42 runs, as they were dismissed inside 26 overs.

Bridgwater 1st XI take on Bath in the ECB Regional Twenty20 Cup Final on Sunday (July 26) 11am start at the Parks.
