NORTH Petherton continued their fine start to the season with a sixth win from seven games, beating Street by 94 runs on Saturday.

Harry Bowditch (51) played something of a lone hand as Pethy were bowled out for 161 in 47.4 overs, while Lewis Irish and Tim Gibbs (both 23) chipped in with vital contributions lower down the order.

The Street reply never really got going thanks to some fine bowling from Mike Burns (1-18) and Ian Blackwell (3-6), as Street began to collapse in a heap.

Jack Western (22) offered brief resistance, but once he had been dismissed by Lewis Irish (2-4), Jacobus Pienaar (3-1) finished the job with three wickets in ten balls to fire Pethy to the top of the WEPL Somerset Division table.

In WEPL Premier Two, Shapwick and Polden slumped to a 16-run defeat at the hands of Keynsham, despite a superb innings of 93 from Steve Tinnion.

Tinnion and Sam Edmunds (35) put on 102 for the wicket as Shapwick looked on course to chase down Keynsham’s 205-9 with relative ease.

But the pair fell within seven runs of each other to spark a major collapse – as Shapwick were all out for 189 in the 43rd over.

The opening pair were the only players to reach double figures.

Earlier, Steve Coppell (4-55) had been the pick of the Shapwick bowlers.

In Division Seven of the Somerset Cricket League, G Purchase scored a century in vain as Middlezoy were beaten by four wickets at Wembdon Wyverns.

Purchase’s knock carried Zoy to 184 batting first, with S Harvey (4-53) doing the majority of the damage for the Wyverns – and in reply, J Prior (44) and S Pigden (43) led the charge as the hosts reached their target with 14 balls to spare.

Elsewhere in the division, Spaxton suffered a six-wicket defeat at temple Cloud 2nd XI, despite the best efforts of Tom Bellinger (48 and 2-48).

Bellinger led the way for Spaxton as they made 211-9 batting first, but Cloud eased home inside 43 overs.

Bridgwater Sports lost a low-scoring affair with Wedmore 2nd XI by 14 runs.

Sports were in fine form with the ball to dismiss Wedmore for just 118 thanks to 4-18 from D Ingram – but the batsman were unable to follow the bowlers’ lead and crashed to 104 all out.

In Division Seven, North Petherton 2nd Xi beat Evercreech by eight wickets – I Hucker scored 51 as they ccruised to their target of 95.

In Division One, Bridgwater A slumped to a seven-wicket defeat at Purnells, having been dismissed for just 108 – and Middlezoy soared to a commanding ten-wicket thrashing of Kilmington and Stourton, thanks to an unbeaten 55 from M Troman and three wickets apiece from P Tilling and C Sessions.
