Emeralds 11, Spears 61

On a beautiful sunny Saturday, a young Emeralds team travelled to Paulton for their match against Spears, which they knew was going to be a difficult game.

Both the defence and attack worked hard throughout the game to keep possession and to fight to get the ball back.

Despite some good interceptions, Spears gained a heavy lead meaning Emeralds had a tough fight ahead for the next three quarters.

Continuous hard work from all players meant that Emeralds managed to turn over the ball and score some goals - however it was not enough to gain the lead as Spears showed a strong defensive unit.

The final score was 61-11 to Spears. Players vote was joint between Tilly Milburn and Nic Elkins, with Umpire’s vote also going to Nic Elkins.

Rubies 13, Kestrels 35

RUBIES started their game against Kestrels strongly, with great defending from Carly Martin and Sandy Hocking getting the ball out of the defence and making good link ups down the centre court with Kirsty Richards and Sammie Brown.

The first-quarter ended 7-6 to Kestrels.

In the second-quarter Rubies struggled to keep possession and play the game safe, which then allowed Kestrels to take a strong lead ending the second quarter 15-7.

During the third quarter Rubies had started to lose their determination and struggled to put the goals on the board - and Kestrels took advantage, ending the third quarter 24-10.

Despite a string effort in the final quarter, Rubies still couldn't close the gap.
