Somerset County Division One West

Middlezoy Rovers 3, Wells City Res 0

MIDDLEZOY Rovers manager John Warren described this as 'performance of the season' after first half goals from Cushing and Lintell and a late strike from Whaites gave them three vital points in the race for promotion.

Early signs for the hosts were good as they started brightly, and after 14 minutes they deservedly took the lead.

After some fantastic build up play down the right involving Turner, Damon Jennings swung in a delicious cross on to the head of Max Cushing, who made no mistake from six yards out.

Middlezoy did not have to wait long for their second, this time Charlie Lintell racing through from full back was found by Wright on half way and did the rest - outpacing the Wells back line and finishing well.

The hosts saw the half out in complete control, keeper Greg Turner not having a save to make. In truth the visitors made life difficult for themselves playing long in the blustery conditions.

It was much of the same early in the second half with the hosts dominating possession and chances. Smith and Temlett were causing problems out wide and it was the latter who had the next chance, but missed the target when through on goal.

The visitors had half a sniff on 75 minutes, but a speculative long range effort flew just over Turner's crossbar and that was the closest they came to pulling one back.

Credit largely to the centre back pairing of Brown and Clapp who were exceptional all afternoon.

On 88 minutes Middlezoy got a third after good work from Temlett and Luce, Aaron Whaites was on hand to roll the ball home at the back post from a tight angle.

Jennings Middlezoy entertain Street Res this Saturday and must win their remaining three games to have any realistic chance of promotion.

Team: GTurner, LTurner (Bone), Clapp, Brown, Lintell, Jennings (Whaites), Luce, Cushing, Temlett, Smith, Wright (Tucker).
