TRIBUTE SOUTH WEST ONE WEST
Matson 16, North Petherton 13
NORTH Petherton were unable to produce their form of recent weeks against a determined side who completed the double over them, writes Simon Freeman.
Lloyd Williams and captain Damian Griffin both crossed for Pethy against their Gloucestershire opponents but it was not to be enough – and Griffin admitted it had been a bad day at the office for his side.
“Unfortunately it was poor preparation from the start,” he said.
“We arrived late, which affected our warm-up, and in previous weeks our forwards have been brilliant but this week we were off the pace.
“We couldn’t get the fluidity we needed and never seemed to get a set back line long enough to run through phases.
“Well played to Matson, they needed the win and they battled until the end of the game.
“When we did switch on we did play some good stuff but it all happened too late.
“Massive push this week for training and an improved performance.”
Pethy welcome Camborne next on the final weekend of the season, on sponsors’ and ex-players’ day at the club.
North Petherton Colts 38, Bridgwater & Albion Colts 12
NORTH Petherton took the local bragging rights with a comfortable victory on Saturday.
The half-time score was 11-5 with a try from Jack Coles and Harvey Skinner kicking two penalties.
The second-half saw Bridgwater press hard through their big forwards but Pethy’s strong defence kept them out.
Pethy added further tries from Jack Coles, James Chin and LJ, with Harvey Skinner adding a conversion and three penalties.
On Saturday, North Petherton Colts play Minehead at home (kick-off 2.30pm).
