ALAN chance and Bob White have won the Seniors’ Winter League competition at Cricket St Thomas despite not playing in the eighth and final round at the club last Monday.

A thick mist greeted the players in the morning and the start of the round was delayed.

The inclement weather interfered with the golf and none of the 15 pairings managed scores in the 40s.

In a tight finish, Maurice Arnold and Richard Forster – who were in contention for the title – managed to return a score of 37 points and finish in second place.

The winners were early starters Gordon Bareham and Andy Beale who fared one better with 38 points.

Results of Round 8: 1 Gordon Bareham & Andy Beale 38pts; 2 Maurice Arnold & Richard Forster 37pts; 3 Ted Bryden & Nick George 35pts.

Scrutineers then checked the cards from the previous seven events and Chance and White were declared league winners with 252 points.

Runners-up were Arnold & Forster with 247 and third Barrie Heath & Trevor Dobson on 245.

A total of 27 Seniors attended the March individual Stableford competition on Wednesday.

The mist and windy conditions made life difficult, especially on the greens which proved to be inconsistent.

However, this did not effect John Pearce, playing in Division 1, from returning a remarkable score of 41, enabling him to win his division by six points.

In Division 2, Ron Sutherland also played well, and was the only player to break par.

Results: Division 1 – 1 John Pearce 41pts, 2 Barrie Heath 35pts, 3 Danny Dowell 34pts. Division 2 – 1 Ron Sutherland 38pts, 2 Nobby Hodder 35pts, 3 Brian Marsh 34pts.
