TAUNTON Wanderers gave their all for the full 80 against third-placed Morganians in Tribute Somerset 2 (S) but still lost 19-12.

The weather was dry and the pitch firm so both sides were happy to throw the ball about.

Winger Scott Laver made some huge dents in the defence with powerful runs up the touchline and centre Gary Peter-Budge was excellent in attack and defence.

The scrum was solid. Hooker Andy Farley managed to pinch a couple against the head and in the line-out Wanderers won nearly all their own ball.

From one excellent line-out a big drive made ground and Glen Cooper was at the back to dot down out wide.

Old Morgs were very organised and it was tough to get through their defence but the Taunton back row ensured that the ball was recycled many times to open up space.

After a great run from Jake Foster the forwards got the ball and drove for the line. James Hodson was held up so a scrum was awarded.

The power came on from the front row – Wayne Wiltshire and James Dean destroyed the Old Morgs pack – and Paul Ford, playing at No8, touched down to score with Foster converting.

Commenting on a much improved performance from his side, manager Lee Terry said: “The lads can now enjoy their Christmas break and hopefully carry this form on in January”.
