FORESTERS A hosted the Lime Kiln A in Division A of the Bridgwater Town Skittles League and took home advantage straight away pulling five on the opening hand with a 67, after a 14 spare from Alan Swain.

Foresters’ second hand piled on the pressure, pulling a further four but Lime Kiln raised their game in the third and pulled 10 to lead by a single.

With two tied hands, the sixth hand allowed Foresters to regain the lead by three after a poor hand from Limer let them back in. A target of 73 was set which initially looked safe until spares rolled in from Rich Harris, Ash Young, and Rob Sharman and Lime Kiln won by two.

In Division B, River Parrett A took control of their match against West India A after a spare from Damo McDonald opened proceedings.

However, a poor hand from the home side on their return to the alley let the visitors back in, allowing a four-pin lead to develop.

The third hand resulted in a tie, before Parrett’s last man on Darren Pear hit a 16 spare pushing themselves back into the lead.

West India pulled 11 on the penultimate hand after a poor hand from the home side; they needed 65 to win which, despite a spare from last man on John Cable, still eluded them. River Parrett won by six.

Great Western Club A played at the Newmarket in Division C, facing the A team.

Shack showed the more consistent skittling and reaped the rewards having a 28-pin lead entering the fourth hand, before Newmarket found their groove and sliced through the deficit, pulling back 25 in two hands.

Spares from Nathan Parsons, John Patterson and Trev Symons did the damage.

Shack, not to be outdone, hit a 71 after a 16 spare from anchorman Steve Cox, giving a lead of 11 entering the final hand. New Market set a target of 56 which Shack had hit most of the night, and was hit again, exactly. Great Western Club won by a single pin.

Division D leaders Cobblestones B moved this week to become Duke A following pub closure. The fixture was played at the Malt Shovel, where they settled in well to the alley, pulling two pins on their opening hand. Martin Plummer’s spare in the second added another four pins to the lead.

Market B opened their third hand with a 14 spare from Sam Facey, having already been denied a reward in the secondhand after a nine tail Sam’s spare took his team into the lead by a single pin.

Duke won the next three hands by a few pins a time giving themselves a seven-pin cushion entering the final hand. A target of 71 was set for the win, which Market chased valiantly, Jordan Donaldson hitting a 14, however last man on needed a spare and only an eight was forthcoming giving the win to the Duke by two
