IN Division A of the Bridgwater Town Skittles League New Foresters A hosted Cobblestones A . . . and both hit 497.

Foresters took an early lead after a 15 spare from Leigh Hurford and Steve Bull enabled the home side to pull six pins.

By the end of the second hand Cobblestones were in front by two after three spares from Graham Davey, Bob Shorthouse, and Robin Slade.

Foresters won the third hand to retake the lead, and a tied fourth hand left the game wide open.

Cobblestones had two good 70 hands to pull a lead of ten entering the final hand, where a target of 58 was set by the home side.

Cobblestones started well, but on the challenging alley pressure mounted and with only a four to finish the last man on was a pin short of the necessary score.

In Division B, Parrett A hosted White Hart A, who won the opening hand by seven pins, only to lose seven in the second hand to leave the game tied.

Parrett won the third hand by 22 and didn’t win another, but still came out on top by nine.

In Division C, Commercial A played at The Market, downstairs facing the Market A team, and despite winning the first hand by five they failed to lead again, thanks mainly to top scorers Ian Ingram and Richard Gregory, who in the second and third hands both hit spares to give a lead of 21.

Ray Warner followed suit in hands six and seven to limit late gains by Commercial, who finished losing by 17.

In Division D, Malt Shovel B hosted Market B and took an early five-pin lead before the visitors settled down and retook the lead by six following an 18 spare from Sam Facey.

Come the final hand Malt Shovel set a target of 59 which included their three-pin lead.

Market’s middle order scored well, but it ended in a draw, both teams hitting 425.
