Sapphires 28, Babylon 54

SAPPHIRES lost out to a strong Babylon side at the weekend.

Sapphires went out strong in the first quarter, with great interceptions in the circle from Carly Martin, playing out of position at GD - and Nic Hale made it harder for Babylon to receive the ball.

Sapphires had great feeding into the circle to Lynne Cornish – and thanks to Abi Ridler, Katie Ball and Mikki Hole impressed.

Gems 29, Newton 33

GEMS were narrowly edged out by Newton in a hard-fought contest.

Gems took a while to settle in the first quarter, as did Newton which reflected in an 8-8 score at the end of the first 15 minutes.

The second quarter Newton’s defence was strong and consistent which meant Gems’ attacking players had to work extremely hard, however with fantastic defending from Beth Fella and Kerry Hobbs gems managed to also turn over some great balls and end the second quarter still level pegging at 17-17.

The third quarter saw Gems begin to tire against such strong opposition, but luckily found some fight in the last quarter to pick their game back up.
