McKINLAYS 1st Chard Wheelers staged their own Autumn circuit racing event at Merryfield on Saturday.

The competition was fiercely contested with some great Wheelers performances, particularly from the youth riders.

Top ride of the day came from a relative newcomer to racing, Chris Burrows, who pipped Joe West for victory in the Under-14 event.

Burrows produced a very strong sprint finish to hold off West who was gaining quickly. Evan Richards dominated the Under-12 race and romped to victory, while Max Taylor did likewise in the Under-10s.

Ruby Bond took third place in the Under-16 girls and then went to ride well in the senior Ladies race.

Rob Hogg won the Wheelers’ recent club Time Trial championship with Justin Dance in second place.

Rex Facey and Sean Hogg followed next while Mark Hughes stopped the clock with the fifth best time.

Junior rider Adrian Lane took sixth place.

Wiebke Rietz won the Ladies title with Caroline Lance second and Martha Beacham third.

Rowan Ellis took the Under-14 title from Chris Burrows and Luke Loosemore while Lloyd Clayton topped the Under-12 listings.

Max Taylor completed a great week by winning the Under-10 TT with Joe Smith second and young Magnus Larsen third.

Under-16s Emily Attfield, Ruby Bond and Ryan White are busy preparing for the inter-regional championships, in Essex, later this month.

They will be representing the South-West in the road and circuit racing event over three days.
