Speedway Premier League

Somerset Rebels 64, Workington Comets 28

THE Somerset Rebels completed their regular Premier League campaign with this emphatic 36-point win over play-off hopefuls the Workington Comets.

The opening four heats were a relatively close affair with three of them seeing a share of the spoils, heat three being the exception as it saw Klindt and Charles Wright race home to the first of what was to be seven maximum race advantages for the Rebels.

Despite, however, the apparent one-sided nature of the score-line, there was plenty of top quality racing action to keep the crowd more than entertained - with Morris' chasing down and subsequent passing of Grajczonek on the final lap of heat 13 being the pick of the bunch.

Somerset's almost total domination of the match saw them provided no less than 14 out of the 15 race winners whilst denying Workington a single race advantage, the win also ensuring that Somerset completed their regular home league campaign with an 100% record with which to take themselves into the Championship-deciding Play-Offs.

Somerset team manager Garry May said: "Yet again this was another excellent team performance, it seemed to take a few of the boys an outing to get themselves into the match, but when they did there was just no stopping them.

"Nicolai [Klindt] was a great guest, but everyone played their part tonight with all six of our riders finishing with at least a paid win to their name.

“You cannot ask anymore of your team than the boys provided tonight.

"With regards to the play-offs, there is nothing more we can do having completed our league fixture other than to wait and see what Edinburgh do with their two matches over the course of the weekend to see if we finish in first or second place in the table ahead of picking our choice of opposition for the play-off groups."
