Huntspill & District 175-6 beat Long Sutton 148 by 27 runs

JAKE Randall put in a match-winning performance as Huntspill & District beat Long Sutton by 27 runs on Saturday.

Randall's knock of 88 helped Huntspill to 175-6 from their 45 overs, while Sam Lillycrop (36) and Mike Crawford (15) also contributed.

The youngster then took 3-37 as Long Sutton were all out for 148 - Lillycrop (2-37), Matt Counsell (3-15) and Crawford (2-36) all chipped in with wickets, to secure a hard-earned victory for Huntspill.

Dean Cavill fell early in the Huntspill innings, and when Tippetts followed shortly after, a spell of rebuilding was required.

Lillycrop and Randall did just that and began to hit their straps with a series of well-timed boundaries.

Lillycrop departed for 36, but Randall soon kicked on and passed fifty with another four.

Counsell (4) came and went quickly, but Crawford's late cameo took the visitors to a par score.

Early wickets were a necessity and Lillycrop stepped up to the plate to remove both openers in his first spell.

Counsell's introduction had immediate effect as he took out Vigar (20) and Cook (25) in an economical spell which saw him concede just 15 runs in 12 overs.

Randall's three-wicket burst put the game to bed for Huntspill, while Crawford's two wickets wrapped up victory.
