ENMORE Park Seniors early season matches continued with a home fixture against the south Somerset team from Windwhistle and a Somerset Bowl handicap match both on the same afternoon.

The Windwhistle encounter began and ended in fine style with Enmore posting a comfortable victory by five games to two.

Captain John Newell, with partner Jim Symcox, led the way with a fine win by 5 & 4.

Other Enmore wins were gained by Max Jameson with Jess Lawrence (5 & 2), Paul Waplington with Tony Hughes (4 & 3), Mervyn Slocombe with Chris Marshall and Jeff Horsley with Chris Tops, both pairings 2 up.

Meanwhile on the neutral Isle of Wedmore course, an Enmore Seniors team of five pairs did not fare so well against their opponents - from Sham Castle of Bath, in the first round of the Somerset Bowl handicapped fixture losing by 1 and half to 3 and half.

Enmore club captain, Ken Doig, along with partner Alan Vickery, were Enmore's only winners, whilst Keith Norcutt with Ken Woodland rescued a half point after being 5 down at one stage of their game.

Enmore's next fixture was away on the somewhat damp Tiverton course.

With the match restricted to six pairs, bizarrely five games finished on the 18th green.

Sadly out of those five games, Enmore could accrue only one and a half points - their sole winners were Jim Potticary with Jess Lawrence, 2 up, whilst Brian Parker with Colin Bradley secured the half.
