RAIN restricted the Windwhistle Seniors’ field to 27 for their 3 man Texas scramble over 15 holes.

Even so, a competitive match saw less than three shots separate the top three sides.

Back to back birdies by Chris Basterfield’s team put them a shot clear over their nearest rivals who just managed to secure second place over Mick Aldridge’s team by the narrowest of margins.

Result: 1 Chris Basterfield, Keith Potter & Richard Forster 51.50; 2 Stuart Pope, Bob Barrow & Mike Hone 53.00; 3 Mick Aldridge, Brian Hodder & Alan Davis 53.87.

After a washout on Wednesday, 40 Seniors took advantage of the better conditions on Friday once the frost had disappeared.

The competition took the format of an individual Stableford over 15 holes in combination with a blind pair to be drawn afterwards in the clubhouse.

In addition to an extraordinary round of 11 under par by Ray Gudge, several players returned scores of around the 30 mark, but the winners required two consistent scores.

This was duly realised as both Barrie Heath and Brian Anderson returned scores of 31 to take the honours.

Result: 1 Barrie Heath & Brian Anderson 31+31 (62pts); 2 Keith Harper & Stuart Pope 34+26 (60pts); 3 Ray Gudge & Ted Bryden 41+19 (60pts).
