Innalls praises Albion progress
2:00pm Monday 23rd December 2013 in Somerset Sport
BRIDGWATER & Albion head coach Kevin Innalls thinks this season has been one of small margins, but remains confident his side are heading the right direction, writes Will Carpenter.
Albion are eighth in Tribute South West One West heading into 2014 – and Innalls believes his side have improved significantly on last season.
He said: “It’s been a season of maybe’s and should-be’s, really.
“It was a bit disappointing that we lost to the top three sides by just a few points and it could have been very different.
“From last season it has been a massive improvement and I think a lot of what we have been putting into practice is beginning to come into play.
“We have learnt a lot from our mistakes and we want to start the New Year with a bang.”
Innalls’ original target at the beginning of the season was a top four finish, but the head coach now believes that could be difficult to achieve.
He said: “Top four was the target at the start of the season but, with the games we have lost and the five-point deduction, that’s going to be difficult to do now.
“But we’ve got to keep working hard, winning games and see where we can finish.
“I’d like to think we can still put some pressure on the top four or five.
“We are just trying to build a good, solid team and club that’s going to benefit us in the long term and not a quick fix.”
Albion open 2014 with a home game against Thornbury on January 4, before a trip to high-flying Cleve the following week (January 11).
